  • Cylas’ Big Adventure

Well, my almost two-year old is very creative, determined and curious. All of these characteristics mix into a very dangerous potion if left alone. So, I have the wonderful pleasure of making sure each of these parts are kept satisfied so they do not blow up. Recently, Cylas discovered how to open our kitchen door. Realizing that simply turning the handle didn’t work, he would lean backwards and use his weight to slowly open the door. And so, begins this adventure…
In an effort to keep myself busy and distracted from the fact that I’m almost 3,000 miles away from my REAL home, I’ve taken to making weekly, if not daily, trips to the library and every Wednesday I make sure to be at the local Farmer’s Market. Well, today I was desperately trying to figure out how to request library materials online. I also had Dr. Laura turned up so, I was pretty distracted. Cylas was in the kitchen playing with a wagon he had dragged over and his favorite — “shoots” translated “boots”. If this kid could sleep in his “shoots”, he would. So, while I was distracted with trying to get library materials and forgetting my duty to keep those “parts” from combining, Cylas quietly slipped out the door. Mind you, we live in a very rural area and the cars fly by over these sloping hills with a fierce speed and behind us is open field that leads to a veal farm. Luckily this incident happened now instead of in the summer when corn will be high. So, after about five minutes I realized I hadn’t heard so much as a toy drop in the kitchen. I got up and found the kitchen empty. I made a quick dash through the house calling for him — no answer. I can’t begin to tell you what raced through my mind in the three seconds it took me to get outside and start calling for him. I didn’t scream…I just called out for him. No answer…so, I started walking around to his favorite side of the house and sure enough there he was standing in between the trees in his pj pants, short sleeved shirt and his “shoots”. He immediately turned toward me and started saying “shoots!, shoots!”. I think he was trying to say that he had gotten them on all on his own and made it outside! What a sneaky little boy. We held hands and talked for a minute and this time I locked door after we were inside.

I heard some news about you, you little stink pot! lol Congrats! Love ya! Miss ya!
