  • Of Food And Love: Ricketts Glen picnic!!

Yesterday we went on a picnic to a huge state park! We took six of the neighbor boys with us and invited a few more people. There was a total of twenty of us that trailed off to the picnic. We started preparing everything the afternoon before. We made deee-licious shishkabobs stacked with marinaded pork(marinated for more than 24 hours!), red, green, yellow bellpeppers and chunks of onion. We purchased fifteen pounds of meat to feed everyone. I tried a new recipe for a broccoli and bacon salad per David’s special request. It was a hit! By the end of the day, the salad had only a few droplets of sauce left. David and Dima, one of our neighbors, grilled the ‘bobs to perfection. The ladies made up the picnic tables and set everything out all pretty…heeh.
The day was full of activities. Skyler, David and I hit the lake on a paddle boat and paddled ourselves silly. I was so tired by the end and I think I gave the baby a rollercoaster ride while I was out there. Skyler was manning the helm but, he was too afraid to steer! He had his fingers stuck in his ears the whole time afraid that at any moment our little paddler was going to capsize and send us into the murky depths of the shark infested lake. Eventually, he unplugged his ears and did his job! Later that afternoon David and a couple of other people went on a hike up to the waterfalls, which is what this park is known for. Skyler and the boys went fishing with Dima. Meanwhile, Cylas knocked out and we ladies sat around talking until the clouds started rolling in. At the first sound of thunder, we began scurrying around like ants gathering up all of the picnicing supplies only to find out that the guys had the keys to the car. So, we sat around worrying and hoping the rain would hold off. It did and an hour and a half later our hikers came huffing back. David took a clip of the beautiful waterfalls. I wish I could have gone but, I don’t think my belly would have let me keep up with them. I was pooped after just paddling in the lake! Enjoy

    Aw Misha,
Sounds like you are adjusting well! Those shish kebabs look yummy. Maybe they can make a repeat performance next week??? (along with your salad) Can’t wait to see you!
