  • Of Food And Love: Amish Milk!

Ok, seeing as we live in Amish country it is expected that we know a little about their culture and the people well, I don’t know much about either but, I do know about their milk! Recently, we started buying milk from an Amish farmer around the hill. And it is delicious! It is so creamy and ice cold it even tastes healthy! (is that even possible?) It is raw milk, yeah, the stuff you pay $9 for in the store and you only get a half gallon! Well, we get it for $2 a jar! The jars we bring are huge and it’s so worth it. However, in order to keep buying from them we have to follow strict orders…I’ll explain more after the videos.

::DUE TO CERTAIN PRECAUTIONS THE VIDEOS HAVE BEEN REMOVED::

After the last video, which I wasn’t able to record this part because the kids started to get really rowdy, David had to take a hose and spray down the spout where the milk comes from and then the plugs to make sure there was no dirt. And last of all he had to spray the floor around the spout to wash away any drip mess. When we leave, we place the money on the window sill for the farmer to take. They are very trusting out here!

Wow how cool is that?? You guys are really getting back to the basics. How wonderful!

That’s amazing. I am SOOOOO envious. I have been looking for a source out here so we can make cheese, etc. Seems that since across Grantline there are two dairy farms, I shouldn’t have any trouble…but everyone is so afraid of being sued out here. Leave the money on the sill…sigh…amazing!
