  • Dreams do come true…even if you’re a stay at home mom

When you’re a mother a lot of your dreams have to be put on hold — indefinitely.  However, there are some dreams that you can have and still make a reality ONLY if they fit into the mold of your family without stretching the limits…or being too selfish *clears throat*.
I promise, this particular dream isn’t selfish.  It just gets a little selfish-y when I want an hour to myself to concentrate.  But that, too, is flexible, well, actually, it’s out of my control completely and totally up to the nap fairies if they choose to bless me with two children who decide to nap simultaneously.  THAT is a little dream come true.
Ok, ok, so here is my not so selfish but CAN be selfish-y dream that came true.  A sewing room!  A sewing room with a Janome serger.

A sewing room with a Bernina sewing machine.  *gasp*  ALL to myself.

See, I was sewing on this little machine, bless her heart.  She did me well, but I had to move on…

And I have been going down to the basement, regularly, for stichin’ therapy.  I can totally lose myself for two hours.  Not to say it happens often, but it has and when it does, I love it.  Not only that, but I never imagined that this particular dream would come true.  How did it come about …  me learning to sew?  Ahh, it feels so good.  (still in the process of setting things up)

And when Cylas comes down with me he loves it too.  A little TOO much for my comfort.

But as I watch him play around I can’t help but remember when I was little, putzting around my mom’s sewing room pushing all the pins down in her tomato pin cushion, testing out her Singer sewing scissors on scraps of fabric, hand sewing little pouches and dresses for my Barbies.  And when I think about all that I bite my lip before I scold him for dumping all my pins out and on the floor, pulling the thread out of my machine or cutting into fabric that he shouldn’t.  I was there, too, once, a long time ago and I have really good memories from my mom’s sewing room and I want him to have good ones from mine.  So, yeah, dreams do come true and so do perfect little memories.
