  • Of Food And Love: Pickin’ Peaches!

It’s that time of year again.  Last month raspberry season took over our lives, and now it’s time for the peaches.

First of all, two years back was my first introduction to canning.  I rather enjoyed it.  It’s tasking and it took me a while to get myself in gear…meaning almost all of the fruit spoiled because I kept procrastinating, BUT I did get to can and salvage enough to make a few jars of delicious peach preserve.  I made peach cobbler like no other and sweet, gracious, if I let these peaches escape their destiny in my huge pots…I’m an idiot.
So, this year, I’m getting a jump on it.  Went out this morning and picked quite a few.  I’m going to peel, core and slice them and then the yummy, slurry goodness begins.  But this year is notably more exciting than the last two, because I had a little helper!

    My little ham
She was the perfect little helper and quite the poser.
I figured now is a good a time as any to introduce her to the fun side of work.  And the delicious outcome of patience.
I will make sure to post photos of all our hard work…peach cobbler from your own trees just tastes better.
A bucket full of peaches and pocket full o’ dreams.

OOh, love it! So where did you pick? At Megan Mulligan's new orchard or somewhere else. Let me know when you go again. I need to go! And I think I finally have time for peaches this year!

Jocelyn: Heh, actually, it was in our front yard. Next year we'll have to invite you over to pick raspberries. We have more raspberries than we do peaches. But you're welcome to help with the peaches too!

Jana: Awww! Thank you so much. And I really wish we lived closer, too. It's a cryin' shame.
