  • Of Food And Love: All Hallow’s Eve

It’s a long story…but our family has a love/hate relationship with this day.  So, I will just focus on what my son and I did to signify the coming of the fall harvest.

I was checking out some of my favorite blogs when I ran across the coolest fall project ever.  Luminaries!  She gave a great tutorial with tons of pics.  Which she probably didn’t need to have pictures of the process because it’s so easy.  But it made for good inspiration…

Grab a nail and a hammer
And we happened to use an empty can of chicken broth.  But any ol’ can will do.
Fill it up with water and freeze.
Then, trace the outline of a cat, bat, pumpkin, leaf, spider — or whatever means harvest to you, on the outside.  You can peel the label off and tape your outline to the can.  (I just traced my outline directly onto the label itself, then peeled the label after I had tapped all those little holes with my nail…)
Then, start tapping away with your nail and hammer to create little holes.
We chose a pumpkin.  And of course, I didn’t have any little candles to set on the inside so we made-do with a flashlight, for the time being, so Cylas could see what all of our handy work had brought us.  Pure delight!
And a beautiful little luminary to set on the porch when the evening comes…
