  • Of Food And Love: Picnic Patch

Certain times of the year demand that every mom concede.  I conceded.  We went to the pumpkin patch.

I’m part of a group of moms here in my-small-town, PA and this past Wednesday we all went to a local pumpkin patch. (or as Cylas called it, “Picnic Patch”).  Cylas was so, so excited.  For some reason, he loves pumpkins.  Last year he was in tears when his pumpkin finally rotted and had to be buried in the compost pile…

We’ve never been to a pumpkin patch.  We’ve never been on a hayride.  My kids are pros.  They acted like this was something they do every weekend.
My little girl had so much fun searching for pumpkins.
Of course, her method was much different than her brother’s.
    She would stop and chat…
In the mean time, I had to convince him that it was OK to get a pumpkin that he could carry.  He insisted on finding the biggest one out there.  And wouldn’t you know, one of the rules was that, “you must be able to carry your own pumpkin.”
Yes, he did have to roll his pumpkin back up on to the hayride…
I was going to try and fight that battle…but then I thought better of it.  Some things just aren’t worth the stress.  The pumpkin is now sitting in our house, sometimes used as a step-stool.  Don’t ask.  He loves his pumpkin.
After the hayride/pumpkin patch experience, we toodled around…
in a sea of corn kernels.
Which I’m still finding all around the house…
