  • Running: It’s the New Year and I need your help

    …because I’m on a mission, you see.
Ever since the middle of last year I have really taken up running.  Like…really taken it up.  Like getting up at 4, 5 and 6 in the morning so I can run before the rest of the family gets up…taken it up.
But it’s for a good cause.
Ok *deep breath*, now, once I say this, there is no going back.  I will have to go through with it, all the way to the end and I know I can.
I want to run the New York Marathon.  This November.
And I would like your support.  Just check in on me to make sure I’m running faithfully.  My goal is 20 or more miles a week.  I have been running the 20 miles a week for a while but I want to kick it up a notch.  So, that’s it.
Heeellp!  Because this isn’t going to be easy.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello….I saw your post on Apostolic Blogger. That is an amazing goal that you have set. When I saw your goal, it reminded me of an amazing runner here in California. If you haven't met her, I thought I would introduce her to you. Here is a link to Sis. McElhaney's post regarding the goals she met running and riding in 2010. (http://mcmomentsandmemories.blogspot.com/2010/12/2010-mileage-report.html) Good luck and Happy New Year to you!!

Well my sweet friend, Sis. Kendrick, just introduced me! I had to comment on this post because I love running!

I've been running for many years and my longest run, while training for a marathon that got canceled, was 22 miles. You can do it!!

My best advice – find a marathon training schedule that will help you increase your miles and tell you when to run "long" runs as you get closer to November.

Thank you for the introduction! I will be following her blog.

Thank you both so much. The longest run I've gone on is 8 miles. A mere drop in the bucket but it's something! I know I can do this. I'm so nervous, but having the support, the reminders, the encouraging words is going to keep me focused on this. Because, as I'm sure you're familiar with, it's a mental battle. Running and training yourself to focus…just getting to the next light post, the next stop sign, the next curve…and in my case, over the next hill.
This is going to be one of my greatest adventures to date.

Way to go, Misha! That is AMAZING! I may try a 5k again this year. Not everyone's body can endure that type of running. Good for you!!! I will definitely be checking in on you!
