  • This Weekend: Make someone smile

Yesterday my little sister left for her annual summer travels.  And yes, Europe is included.  I’ve already battled with insane jealousy, contemplated a “face-switch” so I could snag her passport and bask in the Italian sun instead of her, wondered if I could fit in her suitcase…bad ideas.

So, putting all of my crazy emotions aside, yesterday I drove her to New York for the first leg of her summer adventures.  Most of you know that my dad lives there and I’ve been visiting New York for the past sixteen years or so…a second home.  My mood lifts considerably whenever I’m there.  But yesterday, my dad had no idea I was in town.

Took me a couple of hours, after helping my sister wrangle her luggage over to the Lower East side and getting off on the wrong stop on the train, but I finally made it uptown — to my dad.  He was so happy.  There were tears in his eyes, because not an hour earlier we were on the phone, while I was sneaking my way up to him, and he was telling me how much he missed me and just wanted to “hug me”.   I topped off our hug by pulling out a couple of mini lemon loaves  from my bag that I had baked up the night before.  My dad was so grateful.

After our emotional reunion, my little sister and I went to grab a bite to eat.  It was after 2 and we hadn’t eaten since 7 that morning.  We were starving.  Got some wonderful Cuban food and picnicked in the cutest little haven right in the middle of the busy streets of NYC.  I didn’t talk once while we were eating.  Starvation is no joke.

Of course, uptown is always full of surprises.  Oh, Hollister?  Really?  Copying A&F?

Me on the way back, by myself, trying to stay awake.

    This weekend…make someone smile…
