  • Hobbies: Dr. Seuss shirt project

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” — Dr. Seuss

It’s going to be a Seussically cool week at Cy’s school.  I have a list of the Seuss-ish things they’ll be doing and it’s so cute.
Today it’s Fox in Sox day.  Wear the craziest socks you have!
Tomorrow it’s The Sneetches and I did a really cute t-shirt for that, but I’ll post it a little later.

Today I want to share my super easy 1 hour project to create a Dr. Seuss-ish shirt.
I bought a packet of white tees, some fabric paint (which is interchangeable with acrylic paints, I later found out.), dug through my felt stash for black and some painters tape.

First wash, dry and iron the t-shirt.  I taped off the center of the arm and painted it red on both side.  Make sure to put some sort of protective piece in between the sleeve so the paint doesn’t bleed over.  I just used some cardboard.

Then, for the tie, I just looked around online for the classic Cat in the Hat bow tie and traced a version onto a piece of paper, cut out my felt and sewed it on.

Uhm, I can’t tell you how easy this was.  It didn’t take too much thinking for me to come up with.  I didn’t want to over burden myself, but I also wanted him to have something unique to himself.
It turned out adorable and I can’t wait until he wears it this Friday for Cat in the Hat day!

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!” — Dr. Seuss

Too cute! Thanks for sharing…Dylan has Dr. Seuss day on Friday also. So the school is selling hats for $5, so I may try making this shirt to go with the hat. Yay!! :)
