These are legit — in their own, devilish way. I stumbled upon this recipe a couple years ago and every time I make them, they’re a hit. What makes them even more special is the secret ingredient.
Take a stick of butter and melt it in a saucepan. See, this is where this recipe gets, so, soo unhealthy… Once the butter is melted pour in 1 1/2 cups of sugar (ahg!) Barely stir. You’re not looking to melt the sugar, you’re just looking to get it wet with butter.
Then pour it over the top of the dumplings.
Enter the secret ingredient — Mountain Dew.
I know, right? Really? Yes, really, and you won’t hate me. Maybe your waistline will, but not you. Pour it around the outer edges of the dumplings, sprinkle with cinnamon and they’re ready for the oven!
Apple Dumplings courtesy of:: Tasty Kitchen
- 2 whole Granny Smith Apples
- 2 cans (8 Oz. Cans) Crescent Rolls
- 2 sticks Butter
- 1-½ cup Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- Cinnamon, To Taste
- 1 can ( 12 Oz.) Mountain Dew Soda (I use a little less)
Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan.
Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
