  • Of Food And Love: Cylas’ 6th Birthday

Every year I put in a fair amount of time into making my children’s birthday party unique and fun.  This year, I took a break.  For months I had circled the idea around of having a Three Musketeers themed party but couldn’t get any further than the costume.  I thrive off of inspiration and there was none to be had so I left it alone.

But, he did have a wonderful little gathering, even if there was no official theme.  He even told me so and I was super happy.

Right now, he’s stuck on wanting hotdogs so we cooked some up for the kid while the adults had shishkabobs, pasta salad, mashed potatoes and coleslaw.  Unfortunately, it started pouring right as David put the food on the grill.  Like, lightening and everything.

We had a bounce house and Cy’s pool set up…when it finally finished pouring the kids jumped in!

The party was small but it was perfect.  His gifts were great.  He’s really into biology and other science type things right now.

He also loves building, so David made this set to imitate one of Cy’s favorite activities at school called, No Ends.

    Let the building games begin!

    Throw some face painting

    and mustaches in the mix…

And he really had a fabulous little day.
Happy birthday to the cutest 6 year old, ever!

What a great party! Looks like your son had a lot of fun– which is important, right? I’m planning my son’s 4th birthday party right now and am realizing the kids don’t really care about the theme, elaborate decorations, and coordinating favors. They just want hotdogs, cake, and good times with their friends– probably because they don’t browse Pinterest (smile). I’m learning (as I type) that it’s okay to keep it simple– I can save time AND be more pleasant at the party!

So true! My husband and I were talking about it and basically, we do all the decorating for the adults!! The showy part is for the adults and the fun, messy stuff is for the kids. I do like putting effort into creating my own decorations, however, it brings a little spunk to the party. But Cylas was so tickled just to have his buddies there…that meant more to him than anything.
