  • Of Food And Love: Goodbye Kindergarten

Last Friday my son said goodbye to his days as a Kindergartner.  I said *hello* to grass and dirt on my floors and pleadings for more Popsicles.
    Summer has started!

Early Friday morning, I woke Cy up and reminded him that it was the last day of school.  He was smiling like a little crazy man.  I made him breakfast and told him that I would be there to join him on his last day.

I was a little later than he had hoped.  The teacher told me he was crying, so worried that I wasn’t going to show up.  But I did.  The whole school was packed into the gym and I saw my little stinker sitting in the front row.  Mrs. B told me to squeeze on in next to him.  He hugged me so hard.  We sang songs, yelled, clapped our hands and giggled at the man with the guitar leading us in the merriment.

“This land is your land, this land is my land, from California to the New York island…”

The teachers put on a grand performance at the very end.  All the children screamed and laughed at their silly leaders. (the principal is the one with the floatie around his waist)

After all the songs in the gym we walked back to his classroom one last time. The kids were jumping on their teacher, hugging her, telling her they would miss her.  So sweet.

Mrs. B put on a slideshow of pictures taken throughout the year.  It was cute.  I caught her sniffling and wiping her eyes.
Even the children were emotional.  I heard them talking about how they were going to miss each other, then one of them called for a group hug.  It was really cute.

To make the day extra special, we planned lunch with papa at Cy’s favorite place.  Zelda’s.  But he calls it Yelda’s.  Silly boy.

We also went to the library so he could get his very first card!  He was very proud of this and promptly checked out a couple of books.

Hard to believe the little boy I put on the bus last August will be going into first grade this year.  I suppose this is where time really does start flying, I get grey hairs, wrinkles on my knees and try to keep a youthful way about me while growing older by the minute.

    I love you, Cylas D!!

Love this one Misha, I remember those Kindergarten days, I remember the hugs of friends and teachers, and my feeling the same way. To be honest, it only gets better from this, every year a new accomplishment and you find yourself feeling very proud of your child. It is a wonder Misha, a beautiful wonder. God Bless all of you.
