Running: The New York Marathon
This is what dreams are made of…
A year and a half ago I threw out a New Year’s goal — run the New York marathon by the end of the year. Little did I know that the process was a bit more involved than just training and signing up, I had to qualify or get accepted onto a team. Neither happened.
So, here I am going on nearly two years later, trying to fulfill that dream of mine. I HAVE been accepted onto a team and am starting the official team training on Saturday the 7th of July. But, my team is in New York :/ so, this means I’m training by myself. I just got an update informing me that everyone will be meeting in Central Park on the 7th at 8:30 am for their first long run of the training period. I told D that I’m going to get up and run at the same time and be with them in spirit. I want this so bad.
However, as a team member we are placed with the responsibility to find 26 sponsors for children in Africa through an organization called World Vision.
Who they are:
“World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.”
It was such an honor to be chosen to run with this team. Each month I have a goal to reach for my sponsorships. As it stands, I’m very behind. I’ve been working diligently, but it’s quite the task! The commitment isn’t a small one, but it changes the life of a small child and that’s nothing to sniff at.
So far, I have 3 sponsors. Deadlines are looming and I’m asking if there are any of you out there who can help me reach my goal and to realize my dream to run this marathon, I would be endlessly grateful.
The commitment MUST be for 1 year. It will not count if it’s just a one time gift, although, those are welcome, too.
Please go, HERE, and when you get to the bottom of the form and it asks for the athlete’s name just put my name in there:: Misha Kelbatyrov
I will be updating you all on my progress with the training and sponsorships. If you know of anyone who would be interested in helping me out, please pass the word along. Sponsorships are this mother’s key to run in the race!
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
This will be my second one – I ran my first this month! I learned SO much. Most of all, not to go out too fast too soon. 26.2 miles is a LOT longer the 13.1! I got totally carried by the crowd and paid for my first 3 miles big time. My plan is start further back next time and aim for a negative split. It was still an amazing experience and I was grinning like I won the whole thing when I crossed the finish line!!!
We’ll figure it out and run one together someday!

You’re gonna do great! I’m running the Santa Barbara Marathon on November 10th, so we’ll be training at the same time.
