  • Of Food And Love: Fourth of July Festivities and a 5k!

Well, I didn’t get around to making festive shirts for the kids this year (my lack of motivation probably had something to do with…you never know.  hah)

Anyway, I would say that this 4th of July was the most memorable yet.  We started off our day with a 5k (3.1 mile race) in a neighboring town.  It was D’s first race.

Us before the race, waiting at the start line.

It was hot, but I prayed for a breeze and I got one :)   I ran hard and beat my previous time by 1 second.  I thought I beat it by 20 something seconds, but I guess not.

D look fabulous sailing in over the finish line!

It was a great day for us, considering ever since I started running he’s ribbed me about my dedication and, in general, just poo-pooed my enthusiasm.

We’ve vowed to run another race together, whaddya know?

    At the finish, together

Then, Cylas had his half mile Fun Run.  He did NOT want to go.  He had this fear that somehow he would lose us along the way and when he got to the finish line we wouldn’t be there for him.  He didn’t come in first, but he ran his heart out.  My dad ran part of the race with him to assure him that all would be ok.

I ran behind them for a bit, they had no clue I was there

I love my dad, who, coincidentally, showed up unannounced from NY to cheer us on.  Like I said — it was memorable.

My baby boy with the biggest grin crossing that finish line!

He was SO happy he got a medal

Later that evening we drove an hour and twenty minutes to Penn State to watch their incredible display of fireworks.  We spent the evening with Crystal, and a bunch of friends.

So much food.  We made cheeseburgers this year, which is so rare for us and I think we’ll be reverting to our standard shishkabobs, and munched on all the dishes that everyone brought to share.

We were parked in a huge grassy field so the kids ran crazy, playing hide and seek, tag, frisbee…

Roma buddied up with her new friend, W.

    And, D, well…if you’re goofy, you’re goofy…

Yesterday was so much fun, we didn’t get back to our place until 12am, exhausted but happy.

I can’t wait until I run another 5k with D, or until Cy is is running by my side, it’s a little dream of mine to have my whole family running one day, together, in a race.
    It will happen, I know.

    I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th!!

Two pics of yours did not fully load Misha but loved the report.

YES one day you will all run together! EVERY #runchat blog you write ALWAYS reminds me of 2 lil 8 year old girls running through the fields and one telling the other “if I were any animal I’d be a cheetah, so I can run and run ” funny thing is, those 2 lil girls were US! :-D

Very fun that D ran with you! My husband’s nearly 50-year-old knees can’t take the running. But he is a great cheerleader! I’ve seen him at the end of many bike rides, so it all evens out. Staying healthy together, even when our sports are different.

That is so awesome! I am sure the whole family will be running. I admire when families raise their children with good health and fitness habits. It’s so important! My husband and I are really into hiking and backpacking. And we plan to do that with our future kids too :)

By the way I went on mini vacation with Kristy Clark and her husband and kids this week (Pastor Clifford Clark’s daughter from Ontario) and I mentioned your name and how much I love your blog. She was like, “aw Misha is such a sweetheart. She is so sweet”. She was glad to hear that all was well with you and your family.

Awww!! That totally made my day! So neat that people remember me. I miss those days at senior camp and whatnot. She was always very nice and I envied her! hahah. If you see you again, please give her my regards!

Pastor Clark is my Pastor so I see Kristy very often :) Plus she is a close friend. I will be sure to tell her you said so!
