  • Of Food And Love: No diet. Just don’t.

Caution::  MY opinion.  Take it?  Leave it?  Your choice :)

Before you go all Paleo, GAPS, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Grain-Free, all dairy, no dairy, low carb, no-carb, low-fat, no-fat, Atkins, South Beach, cabbage soup, Daniel Fast, Juice cleanse.  Just don’t.  DON’T!!  Now, unless you have a severe allergy to gluten, dairy or certain meats, then DO.  My friend has an allergy to gluten so severe it put her in the hospital for a week.

I’m so tired of looking at all the BEST ways to live your life with all of these *diets*.  It’s ridiculous.  I get frustrated because I can’t seem to figure out if the way I’ve chosen to live my eating lifestyle is truly good for me.  Do I THINK I’m doing it all right, when in fact, I’m actually putting small little nails in my own coffin??  Let me tell ya’, that’s how a body can feel after seeing the testimonies and whatnot from all of these different food paths.  I even recently watched an interview online with a lady who said that distance running will change you into a *haggard, squishy witch*.  See what I mean?  EVERYONE has their opinions (me included).  So, this is what I’ve decided — to choose for myself.

I’ve done a little thinking about all of this and I really enjoy certain aspects each of the paths have to offer.  I LOVE meat, so, I look up Paleo recipes.  I love eating meatless, so I look up vegetarian recipes.  But, mostly, I just enjoy some good, clean home cooking.  So, I look up recipes that have NO processed ingredients in them.  (THIS is a great cookbook)

I’m not going to be afraid to eat a potato because it has carbs.  NO!  I’m going to eat that potato because it HAS carbs that are good for me.  I’m going to eat it because it provides me with Vitamin C, Potassium, Vitamin B6.  Yes!  They are good for you.  Don’t be afraid.  Unfortunately, advertizing and greedy money suckers have pumped us full of propaganda in order to SELL products they’ve overly processed and pumped full of engineered nutrients.  Thank you Michael Pollan for opening my eyes to this travesty.

If you’re on the hunt for the *perfect*, *easiest* way to lose weight.  Let me let you in on a secret — THERE ISN’T ONE!  If you’re going to do it right it takes two things: consistency and determination.  Be consistent, don’t switch up here and there, don’t give into excuses, don’t lie to yourself.  Stay determined to CHANGE your relationship with food.  Weight loss happens in the kitchen.  It really does.  Commit to cleaning out the cupboards and eating clean (little to NO processed foods in our case).  Really.  Forget diets.  Eat potatoes.  Eat pastured eggs.  Eat grass-fed beef.  Grow lettuce in pots on your window sill.  Frequent farmer’s markets.  Read Michael Pollan.

wow. i been on the hunt ever since i had my first born (3 months) and it is driving me a little crazy. Got me completely lost
    Great post
